Zoning Board of Appeals

Every community in the State of Michigan that has adopted a zoning ordinance is required to establish a Zoning Board of Appeals.  The ZBA is termed a “judicial” or “quasi-judicial” body.  There are several types of disputes typically included in the Zoning Board of Appeals’ job description for dispute resolution.  The different types of decisions are related to:

  1. Interpretation of the Ordinance text or map
  2. Appeal of administrative decisions
  3. Dimension (non-use) variance requests
  4. Other specific duties associated with Ordinance nonconformities

The ZBA meets on Mondays as needed each month to hear and decide upon cases.
